The Swiss-German Pattern (traditional)

In Switzerland these cards are simply called German cards, not being aware that they have an own Swiss suit system. More often they are called "Jass" cards, because they are used to play "Jass". The process to change from the single faced to the double faced cards took more than thirty years and was finished about fifty years ago. The game has 36 cards (per suit: 6-9, Banner (10), U, O, K, D). There is also a 48 card version (per suit: 3-9, Banner (10), U, O, K, D). These are used for the so called "Kaiserjass".

The ranks 3, 4 and 5 are not from a normal Jass game. Such cards belong to special manufactured "Kaiser"
games. It is not that easy to obtain these Kaiser cards, because they are only used in a small area in the
centre of Switzerland.
