Description: The twelve court cards each feature a well-known figure, though only the kings can be clearly identified as artists in their respective fields: Ernest Hemingway, Charlie Chaplin, John Lennon, and Salvador Dalí. The queens, on the other hand, leave plenty of room for speculation. I have heard names mentioned such as Marilyn Monroe, Sophia Loren, and Barbra Streisand... The jacks appear to be mostly fictional characters: Long John Silver (the pirate from the book "Treasure Island"), a musketeer (an elite soldier from the novel "The Three Musketeers"), one could be Buck Rogers (known from the science fiction movies), and finally, a Viking warrior...
Beschreibung: Die zwölf Hofkarten zeigen jeweils eine wohlbekannte Figur, wobei sich nur die Könige eindeutig als einen Künstler auf seinem Gebiet identifizieren lassen: Ernest Hemingway, Charlie Chaplin, John Lennon, Salvador Dalí. Die Damen dagegen lassen viel Raum für Spekulationen. Habe dazu schon Namen gehört wie Marilyn Monroe, Sophia Loren und Barbra Streisand... Die Buben scheinen vorwiegend fiktiver Natur zu sein: Long John Silver (Pirat aus dem Buch "Die Schatzinsel"), ein Musketier (Elitesoldat aus dem Roman "Die drei Musketiere"), einer könnte Buck Rogers sein (bekannt aus Science Fiction Filmen), dann noch ein Wikinger-Krieger...

Description: Sometimes mistakenly called "Circus Trappola". Colour line block, square corners, no indices. Back side: ornamented trellis, reddish brown.
Beschreibung: Russisches Zirkus-Spiel, manchmal fälschlicherweise als "Zirkus-Trappola" bezeichnet. Chromotypie, rechteckige Ecken, ohne Indices. Rückseite: Verziertes Gitter in Ziegelbraun. Steuerstempel des russischen Kaiserreichs (schwarz, rund, 22mm, mit Pelikan-Motiv). Wenig gespielt, aber mit minimer Knickspur in rechter oberer Ecke vom Laub-Ober.

The court cards feature personalities who are still well-known today: Kaiser Wilhelm II, the German Emperor (King of Acorns); his eldest son, Crown Prince Wilhelm, who served as a military commander during the war (King of Leaves); Paul von Hindenburg, the Field Marshal (Generalfeldmarschall) who later became the Reich President of the Weimar Republic (Ober of Acorns); Count Ferdinand von Zeppelin, the famous inventor and designer of the rigid airship which was named after him (Unter of Hearts).
